

Carole Newberry Roberson Carole Newberry Roberson went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 12, 2004 while at her ranch in Datil, New Mexico. She was born on March 14, 1933 in Liberty, Texas but grew up in Austin. She was the daughter of Gatewood and Velma Brown Newberry. A consummate athlete, Carole was for years a camper and counselor at Camp Mystic near Kerrville, Texas and was a member of the varsity tennis team at Stephen F. Austin High School, Austin, Texas. At the University of Texas she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and was a prized wide-end receiver for the Kappas in the annual Powder Bowl game. She received her fifty-year Kappa pin in 2003. She was a member and officer of the University of Texas Sports Association. She was presented as a debutante by the Austin Bachelors Club in 1951. Upon graduation from the University of Texas, Carole taught for a time at OHenry Junior High School, Austin, Texas and later at the Womens Gym at the University of Texas. In later years, she was primarily engaged in the operation of her cattle ranches in Brewster County near Alpine and in Catron County, New Mexico near Datil. Carole was actively involved at Westlake Bible Church, Austin, Texas and First Baptist Church, Datil, New Mexico, and many Bible study groups including Community Bible Study. She was a member of the Junior League of Austin, the Settlement Club, the Davis Mountains Trans-Pecos Heritage Association, and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Carole is survived by her son Rick Roberson and his wife Carol of Austin and their children, Crystal and Dale; by her son Randy Roberson and his wife Debbie of Austin and their daughters, Stephanie and Melissa; and by her daughter Carole Dee Roberson Bow and her husband Robert of Alpine and their sons, Clayton and Gregory. She is also survived by her sister Camille Newberry Shannon and her husband Bob of Austin and their daughter Camille Shannon Hudson and her husband Greg. She leaves a number of cousins and many friends. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 16th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. We will celebrate her life at a service conducted by Rev. Ed Bratcher at the Westlake Bible Church, on Monday, May 17, 2004, 1:00 p.m., in Westlake Hills. Pallbearers will be Kim Weinheimer, Alan King, Mike McWhorter, Greg Bow, Clayton King, Billy Newberry, Neil Newberry and Greg Hudson.
