Charles Edwin Chapman entered the gates of Heaven on November 14, 2016 just before noon. He was born April 26, 1959 to Gail and Charlie Chapman. Charles graduated from Lanier High School and ITT School of Technology and lived his entire life in Austin. He was employed by the State of Texas for 18 years and up until his battle with cancer, Charles was a caregiver and companion to Gail and Charlie. He was an excellent baker and could, hands down, turn out the best cheesecake in town. We will miss our son, brother, uncle and friend. We will miss those sky blue eyes and "hey sis" text messages; but we know without a doubt that he is in the arms of the angels now and his suffering has come to an end. Rest in peace, Charles.
Charles is survived by his beloved mother, Gail, his sisters Cathy Harkins and husband Tim of Hays County and Carol Nelson and husband David of Marble Falls. Charles is also survived by (and was particularly proud of both) his niece, Catherine Bedell and husband Kent of Austin and his nephew, Dave Helms and wife Amy of Denton; great nieces Hayden and Harper Bedell and Alison and Rachel Helms. Charlie, Charles' father, preceded him in death on August 28, 2016.
A memorial service will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in the chapel at Weed-Corley-Fish, 3125 North Lamar Blvd., Austin, TX 78705. Lunch for everyone and fellowship with friends and family will immediately follow the service in the parlor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ridgetop Baptist Church, 708 East 51st Street, Austin, Texas 78751.
The light by which we live is not a constant beam.
It comes and goes. When it comes, we rejoice;
when it goes we learn to be faithful in simple things.
Sometimes there is nothing at all for you to do except
the obvious, simple, and necessary things which lie just ahead of you.
Do them as best you can today, tomorrow, and the day following.
And who knows but that on the day following, you shall emerge
into the light again and see the way ahead more plainly
than ever before.
(family friend, P. Simmons)
