Charles Wyatt Hall, 71, of Austin, Texas left us to meet his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, late in the evening on Friday, January 31, 2025. Charles was born on November 1, 1953 in San Francisco, California to Wyatt and Charlene Hall. Charles was the middle child, arriving between his two beloved sisters, and due to their singular devotion, he never had a moment's peace. Charles was a miracle, born two months premature and faced additional health obstacles early in life. However, he rose to the occasion at every opportunity. In his younger years, Charles developed a life-long love of Jesus, football, music, and golf. Charles was an excellent golfer, often looking anywhere but at the ball when taking a swing, much to the chagrin of his regular golfing partner and aunt, Mary. Charles was a great lover of music, and especially loved worship music at church, where he clapped and sang louder than anyone ever had, anywhere on earth. The life of any party, Charles could only be coaxed off the dance floor with the promise of a Diet Coke and bag of Cheetos. Charles’ parents loved to travel and brought him on numerous trips, a tradition carried on by his sisters following their parents’ deaths. He enjoyed trips to Colorado, Michigan, and his bucket list trip to Disney World where he met his cherished Mickey Mouse. In his later years, Charles lived in a group home, splitting time between his sisters’ homes on the weekends. Charles developed close relationships with his nieces and nephew over these years and loved to celebrate the holidays with his family as well, asking each member of the family if the gift he gave was, “Something they could use?” More than anything else, Charles will be remembered for his joy, love, and friendship. He likely never knew the impact, both direct and indirect, his life had on countless others. Inspired by Charles, and following his retirement from the Army, his father Wyatt ran a residential program teaching young men with special needs how to get jobs and live independently. He provided additional inspiration for his aunt Mary who taught high school special education and Special Olympics for nearly 40 years. With a never-ending smile and positive outlook on life, Charles would greet friends and strangers alike with a big smile, a wave, and a hearty, “Hello my friend!” He was the earthly embodiment of the biblical command to “love thy neighbor.” Our lives have been immeasurably blessed by Charles, and we are so glad God chose us to be his family.
Charles is survived by: his sisters, Pat Bailey and Kathy Schmidt; brothers-in-law Doyne Bailey and Bob Schmidt; nieces, Lauren Schmidt, Taylor Schmidt, and Leslie Reiter; nephew, Brett Bailey (Mindy); great-niece, Taryn Pulido (Tony); and great-nephews, Dawson Reiter, Weston Bailey, and Wyatt Bailey.
The family would like to thank the staff at Educare, Stonebridge, and most recently St. David’s Medical Center in partnering with us to care for Charles these past 30 years. Charles loved each and every one of you. You enhanced his quality of life, and we are grateful for the love and friendship you shared.
Charles’ funeral will be held on Friday, February 14th at Cook Walden Forest Oaks located at 6300 W William Cannon Drive, Austin, TX 78749. Visitation at 12:00pm, Funeral Service at 1:00pm with reception to follow.
