Born and raised in Austin, Charles grew up in the Montopolis neighborhood, where his strong sense of family and community took root early in life.
At a young age, Charles discovered his passion for cosmetology and obtained his license through a trade program offered at his local high school, an early step that would shape the course of his life. Eager to grow in his craft, he studied under some of the most respected and influential stylists in the industry, continually refining his skills. Over the course of 52 years, primarily in downtown Austin, he built more than a career; he built lasting relationships. His chair became a place of conversation, trust, and connection, where clients often became lifelong friends.
Charles met his late wife and love of his life, Barbara, on a blind date, arranged by his cousin and her sister. Not long after, they married and began building a life together in South Austin. There, they created a home filled with love and raised their daughters, Jessica and Amanda. He was a devoted and present father, rarely missing a moment, from dance classes and recitals to softball games and practices. Through it all, he instilled in his family the importance of love, commitment, and showing up for one another.
Outside of work and family, Charles found great joy on the golf course. An avid golfer, he could be found playing just about every Monday, enjoying many of the courses across the Austin area. He also loved traveling to Arizona and New Mexico, where he combined his passion for golf with time spent in places he loved.
Charles lived with quiet strength, class, and integrity, taking pride in everything he did. Through his faith, his family, and the way he carried himself, he left a lasting mark on those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Anne Saldaña; his parents, Juan and Luciana Saldaña.
He is survived by his daughters, Jessica Bazán and Amanda Saldaña (Robert Hernandez); his grandchildren, Jacob, Alyssa, and Lilly Rose Hernandez, and Luci and Lori Bazán; along with a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins who were an important part of his life.
