

Chester Coffman Baker was born June 21, 1928 to Clarence and Iona Wilkerson Baker in Briggs, Texas. He went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 17, 2006. Chester was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Chester was raised in Mohomet, Llano, and Orange, Texas. He graduated from Austin High School. He joined the U.S. Navy and was assigned to the OBrian Destroyer and served in the Pacific War Zone during the Korean War. Chester took advantage of the G.I. Bill, and he attended Southwest Texas State University. He earned his B.S. degree in 1957 with a major in Industrial Arts. He was employed by Austin Independent School District for his entire teaching career. He taught at Baker and Lamar Junior High Schools. In order to supplement his teaching salary Chester started Baker Air Conditioning and Heating Business, and he worked in the Austin Area until 1991 when he turned his business over to his son, Jason Baker. Chester was a very quiet compassionate complete self-sacrificing person. He always found the good in every person he met. He will be greatly missed. Chester was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Cammela Barkley. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kathryan Baker and his sons, Jon Baker and wife Lauren, Jason Baker, and Jeffery and wife Monica; step-son, James H. Hudnall Jr. and wife Janice; he was blessed with four grandchildren, Savannah, Tristan, Hunter, and Russell; two sisters, Ella Champion and husband Gilbert of Gonzales, May Wright and husband Morgan of Burnett, one brother, John D. Baker and wife Jackie of Hesperia, California. He had many nieces and nephews and friends. Chester will be in state at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Thursday, July 20, 2006, for viewing and to sign register. The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 10:00 am on Friday, July 21, at The Fountain of Memories Mausoleum at Cook Walden Capital Parks Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Intern Pastor Joe A. Sustaita of St. Johns Lutheran Church. Interment will follow services in the Mausoleum.
