Corene Turner, age 83, passed peacefully to her heavenly home surrounded by her loving family on May 6, 2021. Corene was born in Purcell, Oklahoma to Bert and Lillie McGee on April 9, 1938. Shortly thereafter, Corene and her family moved to Blythe, California. In 1955, she married her first husband, Frank Emerson, who is the father of her three oldest daughters, Linda, Susan and LouAnn.
Frank passed away unexpectedly in 1966.
In 1973, Corene married her second husband, Patrick Turner, and after he retired from the U.S. Army, they eventually settled in Austin where Corene worked for Abbott Labs before becoming fully retired.
Corene was known for her faith in God, her kindness, sunny disposition, great sense of humor, as well as gardening, quilting, crossword puzzles and travel. She especially loved going on Alaskan and Caribbean cruises with her daughters, as well as short road trips around Central Texas.
Corene is survived by her daughters, Linda Emerson, Susan Piskorik, LouAnn Powell and Dawn Turner, four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Patrick Turner, her parents, Bert and Lillie McGee, her brother Bobby McGee, and sisters Betty Jo Griffin and Shirley McPherson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12th in the Chapel at Weed-Corley-Fish located at 3125 N. Lamar Blvd., Austin, Texas 78705, followed by a graveside service at 2:00 p.m. at Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
