Born on January 17, 1945, in New Orleans, LA to Louise and Cornelio G. Delgado, Sr., he was the second eldest of seven children.
Corky graduated from Victoria Highschool in Victoria, TX the same year as two of his other siblings making history in the town and a write up in the local newspaper. He went on to work and put himself through college, graduating from Southwest Texas State (currently known as, Texas State University) with a degree in accounting.
Shortly after college, while attending the Pentecostal church in a nearby town, Corky met his future wife, Linda Gale Dobyns. They married on August 24, 1968, had one child, daughter Shelby in 1970, followed by grandsons, Caden in 1991 and Trenton in 1994, spending 30 wonderful years together before Linda Gale passed from cancer in 1998. Corky stayed widowed for the remainder of his life.
During his career, Corky worked as an accountant and then as financial director many years before retiring from Travis County government in 2000. He also had a successful part-time tax business throughout most of his career, which continued into the present year. He will be missed by many tax clients!
Corky went by many titles throughout his life: husband, father, grandfather, uncle, mentor, but to many: a friend. Many loved and adored his charisma, humorous sayings, and his knack for helping others. He was an active church member, sang in the choir, and played the accordion or piano during services. He coached church little league in the early years and then went on to lead the church men’s softball team to many victories. In his younger years, he was an avid tennis player, league bowler, and in the later years, Bingo became his game.
Corky is survived by his daughter, Shelby Delgado of Austin; Grandsons Caden Collins and wife, Ashley of Glen Bernie, MD and Trenton Collins of Austin, and great grandchildren, Grayson, Maeve, and June Collins of Glen Bernie, MD; longtime friend, Richard Loper of Austin; siblings, Louise Sloan of San Antonio, Steve Delgado of Tampa, FL., Sammy Delgado and wife, Alice of Columbus, GA., Danny Delgado and wife, Gloria of Summerset, Linda Potter of Arp, and Toby Delgado and wife, Robin of Maricopa, AZ., and many nieces and nephews.
