Dallas J Maham, Jr., of Austin, Texas, passed away peacefully on November 27, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on June 18, 1938, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Dallas J Maham, Sr. and Ruth Spry Maham.
On September 21, 1963, Dallas married the love of his life, Helene Louise Holtkamp, who he had first met at the Cincinnati Tall Club. They moved across the country as they built their life together, living in Cincinnati, Shreveport, and Houston before settling permanently in Austin in 1972. They had three sons: Dallas J Maham III, Scott William Maham, and Michael Alan Maham.
Dallas was deeply involved in the life of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he served as both Elder and Deacon. He was active in his community as well, helping establish the North Shoal Creek Homeowners Association and supporting his sons’ sports teams and activities. When his boys attended Texas A&M, he became an avid and enthusiastic supporter of the Aggies. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Paramount Theater.
On September 29th, 1973, he began a journey of sobriety. Through the grace of God, mentorship from sponsors and support from family, friends and peers, he was able to work the plan, follow the 12 Steps and take things one day at a time for 19,053 days.
Later in life, Dallas felt God’s call to become a Lay Pastor and served faithfully as pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Copperas Cove. He co-founded the Allandale Group of AA, finding deep purpose in its growth and in witnessing members support one another on their sobriety journeys.
Dallas was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Elaine Maham Wallace; his son, Dallas; and grandsons, Samuel Frank and Ryan Michael Maham.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helene; his sons, Scott (Laura Briener Maham) and Michael (Jennifer Sisk Maham); his daughter-in-law, Cathi King Maham; and his grandchildren:, William Joseph (Stacy Dolan), Brooke Elizabeth, Griffin John, Rehm Nathanael, Charlotte Olivia, Ruby Caroline, and Eliza Claire Maham. His family brought him immense joy throughout his life.
Dallas will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family, his steadfast faith, his humor, and his outspoken nature. He loved the back and forth banter across sports and politics and appreciated his friends, no matter their allegiances.
A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 2 pm on Friday, January 16th, 2026 at Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin, TX.
