David Krogness Ferguson, aged 92, passed away peacefully in Austin, Texas, on April 1, 2026, with his family by his side. Born in Columbus, Ohio, on June 26, 1933, to Clarence M. and Margaret K. Ferguson, David entered the world into a family deeply rooted in the values of faith and service—principles that would define his entire life.
Born during the Great Depression and raised in the formative years of World War II, David developed an early understanding of sacrifice and a lifelong dedication to supporting those in need. His childhood "victory garden" even earned recognition in a local newspaper as a model of "good growth" and patriotic commitment. This early foundation blossomed into a lifetime of purpose.
David’s adult years were defined by his unwavering service to others, his leadership within the church, and the steady, compassionate guidance he provided to his entire family.
David attended The Ohio State University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics in 1955, and met the love of his life, Eleanor Pulse. They were married during a snowstorm on December 19, 1954, and remained committed to each other for more than 71 years.
Following his honorable service in the U.S. Air Force, David earned a master’s degree in agriculture economics from Purdue University in 1961. This degree served as the springboard for a dynamic professional career that included time with Shell Oil Company and the prestigious University of Texas School of Business. David headed up a Central Texas-based HMO and ended his professional career navigating the complex global reinsurance industry with Allianz.
David’s faith was the quiet engine behind his life. He was member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin for more than 50 years where he served as an elder, and a member of numerous critical church committees including planning and pastoral care over the years.
His dedication to the church was not a duty, but a reflection of his deep-seated belief in the enduring power of faith.
David was preceded in death by his parents, and beloved brother, John Clarence Ferguson, with whom he shared a lifelong bond rooted in their upbringing in Ohio. He is survived by his wife Eleanor; sons, David and wife Pam, Dan, and Don and wife Stephanie; grandchildren Abby Haynie and husband Michael, Cameron Ferguson and wife Sarah, Ben Ferguson and Kate Eminger, Alaire Jones and husband Brandon, Alex Hanashian, Christopher Ferguson and wife Ashley, Katie Ferguson, and Hope Ferguson; great-grandchildren, Evelyn Haynie, Hazel Haynie, Kemper Ferguson, Elloise Ferguson, and Hayes Ferguson; nieces Mary Ann Ferguson and husband Daniel Carroll and Susan Ferguson and husband Randall Nissen; sister-in-law Ann Duffe and husband Tom; brother-in-law Tom Pulse and wife Joni.
