As an only child, Delores, a naturalized Texan, moved to Austin at a young age. After graduating from A.S. Johnston High School, where she made lasting friendships and was blessed with a special mentor and journalism teacher Jacquelyn McGee, Delores attended the University of Texas at Austin.
On October 24, 1964, she married Wayne Bailey and was lovingly embraced by the entire Bailey family as one of their own.
Prior to retiring from the Army & Airforce Federal Exchange Credit Union, Delores balanced a full-time career while raising three children in a quaint Texas town called Ovilla. There she made many friends who shared her love for the Lord. Delores was happiest when attending church with her family and Bible Study Fellowship with friends.
Delores’ memory will be forever cherished by her family, friends, and former colleagues. Her legacy as a mother, writer, and friend will endure, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all. In our hearts, she lives on, and we will forever honor the legacy of a remarkable woman who made us laugh.
Delores was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Dorothy Butler. She is survived by her daughter Lisa Pauken; son Barry Bailey and wife Carole; daughter Amanda Fuller and husband Chris; and grandson, Jonathan Pauken and wife Sydney; grandson, Chase Fuller; granddaughter, Emma Fuller and great-granddaughter Madelyn Pauken; along with many loving step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Celebration of Delores’ life will be Thursday, April 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home, with internment to immediately follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park, in Austin Texas. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Samaritan’s Purse or World Vision. Delores actively donated to these charities for decades.
