It didn't take long for my relationship, with Don and Dolores,  to extend past a typical "client-advisor" status.  No matter how much Don worked at being a "grouchy old dog," his sense of humor always shined through.  He loved his family.  Not just with words but with his actions.  If it was the best thing for Dolores, and his boys, he put it into action.
As I set my appointment with Don and Dolores, I knew never to schedule it during Judge Judy.  I couldn't help but make this for him...and he loved it.

I thought I would add one more thing about Donny, Delores and rest of the Schenk family. You know, you can always tell people had wonderful parents by how well their sons and daughters turn out. While I've met all of the sons, I am the closest with Daryl. When I first met him, I'm sure he was unsure of me. But you would never know that by talking to him. He accepted me seemingly right away. He's the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back. I love him like a brother. I've never had a real brother growing up. Knowing him has been one of the highlights of my life. Then i got to meet Donny and Delores. You can tell where Daryl got his ways because they accepted me too...tattoos and all! Lol. Just stepping through those doors in their home, you feel like a part of the family. That's one thing I learned from Donny and Delores that will always stick with me. It's about family and the people you surround yourself with. The Shenk family sets the example for how most people should be. No judging, no issues. Just the love of a good solid family gets you through anything. To the Schenk's, if you ever need anything, reach out and I'll be there for you just as you've been there for me. Here's a goofy shot of my brother and I.  Love yall.

I’ve know Donny for almost 20 years. I worked at CTR. He was such a nice man. When he came to CTR he always came in and sit down at my desk and visited with me. He always wanted to know how things were going for me at work. I really appreciated that. I’ve seen him the last few years at the company picnic and he always hugged me and asked how I was doing. This man is an amazing man and I will miss him dearly. My condolences got out to his family and friends. Especially to his wife, Delores and his 4 sons. I worked with all 4 of them and they are amazing also. I’m very close with Duane who trained me at my job and have a special place in my heart for him. Love you all and I’m so sorry for your loss. 

Don was one of the coolest guys I knew. Being a fellow Minnesotan, that added a lot to his cool status. Lol. One of my fondest memories was one day when we were fishing on one of his stock tanks. I cast my line into the weeds right away. Any fisherman knows that's a good bet to get one. Don comes out right next to me and says "what are you doing? Theres no fish in there." Me not knowing any better, I listened to him and cast where he told me to. I figured, his tank, he knows where the fish are. Before I knew it he cast his line into the weeds and pulled out a fish! I looked at him and he just laughed and walked away with my fish! Then it came time to filet the catch of the day so we can cook em up. We would bicker over his method and mine. He used an electric knife, I used a filet blade. We had a contest on who would leave more meat on the bone and I lost big time! Lol. I even had him on my radio show when I was on MIX 94.7 for his birthday talking about that day.  I cant even believe what's happened. I'm not very good with these situations since losing my father 15 years ago. But I will say this. Donny was a great human being that, even though we didnt see each other often, i considered a great friend and fishing buddy. He and Delores are such great people to share time and laughs with. I'll always remember him and miss him as long as I live. The Schenk family will always be a family I love and respect. My thoughts and prayers go out to all.
