

Doris Morgan Steele (Dee Dee), 92, passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012. Doris was born on January 19, 1920, in DeWitt County to the late Kos and Inez Preston Morgan. Doris grew up in Cuero, Texas, on the family ranch and attended Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. She met and married her late husband, Richard A. Steele, Colonel, USAF (Ret.) in 1944. Doris followed her husband's military and Texas State career which included assignments in Alaska, Canada and various cities within the United States. They were married for 57 years.
Doris was a sixth generation Texan and a rancher whose ancestors included Sarah Bradley Dodson, maker of the first Lone Star flag of Texas, and Texas Patriot, Colonel James Morgan, whose indentured servant, Emily Morgan, is known as the "Yellow Rose of Texas" for her role in the Battle of San Jacinto.
Doris is survived by her five children which include daughter Katherine and husband Dr. Jim Rodriguez of Dallas, son Richard Andre' Steele II of Austin, daughter Mary and husband Dr. Gary Cox of Victoria, son Michael and wife Cindy Steele of Austin, and daughter Nancy and husband Bob Bowman of Round Rock; grandchildren Nicole Rodriguez, Joshua Rodriguez, Lauren Cox, Travis Cox, Jackie Bowman and John Bowman; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Frank and Rosemary Sheppard; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard Andre' Steele, her nephew Frank L. Hansen, sisters Melba Morgan Fly and Ellyce Morgan Hansen, grandson Justin F. Cox, and brothers-in-law Fred Louis Hansen and William Lamar Fly.
Visitation will be from 4:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 3rd, with recitation of the rosary immediately following at 6:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 1:00 p.m., at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Monsignor William Brooks will officiate.
Pallbearers will be Fred M. Hansen, William (Bill) Fly, Michael Sheppard, Joshua Rodriguez, John Bowman and Bennie Baros. Honorary pallbearers are Travis Cox, Grant Braly, Kyle Cowan and Frank Sheppard.
The family would like to extend their most sincere gratitude to Hospice Austin and the caregivers from Nurses Unlimited for their help and loving care of Doris during the past several months.
