

Dorothy May Carlson, 83, of Austin passed away on the 20th of February 2011 in Smithville surrounded by her family and loved ones. She was born May 24, 1927 to Henry G. and Ruth Peterson Carlson in Mendoza, Texas. Dorothy moved to Melvin, Texas with her parents and sisters in 1929. She attended Melvin schools, graduating in 1944. She graduated from Brackenridge Hospital School of Nursing in Austin in 1948 as a Registered Nurse. She was employed as an RN in operating rooms of hospitals and medical centers in Brady, Texas, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Britton, South Dakota, Denver, Colorado and Austin, Texas. She finished her career at Bailey Square Surgical Center in Austin where she retired in 1990. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Helen Jensen; her brother-in-law, Clifford Jensen; a sister, Betty Jean (Patsy) Nelson; a nephew, Derwyn Reid Jensen; and a great-nephew, William Henning McBee. She is survived by a sister, Junell McBee and her husband, Dr. J. D. McBee, of Smithville; brother-in-law, Carl Nelson of Hinckley, MN; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who all loved their Aunt Dot very dearly. The casket will lie in state from nine o’clock in the morning until seven o’clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 23rd of February 2011, at the Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. A funeral service will be conducted at ten o’clock in the morning on Thursday, the 24th of February, in the Colonial Chapel of Cook-Walden Funeral Home, 6100 North Lamar Boulevard, Austin, Texas. A graveside service will be held at four o’clock in the afternoon on Thursday at Resthaven Cemetery, Brady, Texas.
