

Dorothy Matthews Gibson, 92, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday morning, April 4, 2007. She was an Austin resident for 48 years. Born March 22, 1915 in Clarendon, Texas to Walter W. and Minnie Rae Taylor, Dorothy attended Clarendon College before moving to Pampa, Texas where she met her future husband, Stephen J. Matthews. They later married in New York City during the war. After the death of her husband in 1970, she later married a long time family friend, O. L. Gibson. They resided in Lakeway until his death in 1987. She was a long time member of Highland Park Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 25 years and was actively involved in the WMU and the Birthday Group. Dorothy was the most wonderful, loving mother anyone could have. She was sweet and selfless and committed her life to serving the Lord and her family. She is survived by her son, Stephen Taylor Matthews and his wife Lynn; her sister, Julia Murphy of Amarillo; grandchildren, Ryan Matthews and wife Lauren of Ft. Worth, Merrick Matthews of Dallas and Blake Matthews of Austin; one great-grandchild, Madison Matthews; and two step-daughters, Nanette Gibson and Sue Wright. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the kind people at the Summit at Northwest Hills, the Summit at Westlake and Hospice Austin who treated Dorothy with such sweet grace and dignity. A memorial service celebrating Dorothys life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 6, 2007 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home.
