

Edward was born in North Carolina to Edward Moore Sr. and Wilma Oliver Moore and was raised in Martinsville, Virginia, where he graduated from Martinsville High School. He later attended the University of Virginia and earned a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Georgia.
Edward devoted much of his life to service to his country. A highly decorated Vietnam veteran, he served in the United States Army from 1966 until his retirement in 1992 with the rank of Colonel. During the Vietnam War, he served with the 1st Battalion, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. His distinguished service earned him some of the nation’s highest military honors, including the Silver Star, three Bronze Star Medals with Valor, and the Purple Heart. Over the course of his career, he also served as a military attaché in Ankara, Turkey, and with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon.
Following his military retirement, Edward continued his dedication to public service and education as a professor of government at the University of Texas at Brownsville, where he shared his knowledge and experience with generations of students.
Above all else, Edward will be remembered as a devoted husband and father. He deeply loved his wife and children and took great joy in spoiling his grandchildren, who brought him immense pride and happiness. He also had a special love for his dogs, who were cherished members of the family.
Edward is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Castellano Moore; his children, Shannan Kavanagh and her husband Thomas Kavanagh, Christopher Moore, and Sara DeFoy and her husband Russell DeFoy; his cherished grandchildren, Kennedy, Nathan, Francisco, Hawthorne, Jefferson, and Garrett; and his brother, Ray Moore.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward Moore Sr. and Wilma Oliver Moore, and his sisters, LaVerne Moore and Donna Wilson.
A memorial service will be held in Austin, Texas, at a later date. Colonel Moore will be laid to rest with military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.
Edward’s life was defined by service, leadership, and deep devotion to his family. His memory will be treasured by all who knew and loved him.
