Becker, age 85 of Pflugerville, Texas, died on Wednesday, September 24, 2008. He was born on February 12, 1923 in Lebau, Texas to E.E. and Selma Becker. He was the 5th of 6 children, 2 boys and 4 girls. His family moved to west Texas when he was approximately 3 years old, where he would meet his bride, Evelin Clara Ida Meier. His education was cut short after his father became ill and he assumed responsibility for the farm and family. He was drafted into the U.S. Navy during WWII and served as a shore patrolman. After his discharge, he returned to his home and married Evelin. In 1948, they moved to Austin, Texas to pursue a life off the farm. He had several jobs before joining the Austin Fire Department where he served faithfully until retiring with 28 years of service. They joined Trinity Lutheran Church after their move to Austin, and in 1954 chartered a new congregation called Redeemer Lutheran Church in north Austin. He and Evelin were very active and were involved in mission work and other boards and committees. He was especially passionate about the unchurched and worked for many years helping contact, visiting people and sharing with them the experience of the love that Jesus Christ had to offer. Edwin enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening and everything else that the outdoors had to offer. He also had a passion for people and family and made friends wherever he traveled. His parents, sisters Ella Lunsford, Hattie Wells and one brother, Harold Becker, preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Evelin of 61 years, sons Larry, Steven, and daughter Glenda Overfelt. Two sisters, Clara Schmidt of Round Rock and Bernice Coplen of Austin. Visitation will be held on Friday, 26 September, 2008 at the Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, Texas. The funeral will be held on Saturday, 27th of September, 2008 at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1500 W. Anderson Lane, Austin, Tx at 10 a.m. Interment will be at Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville, Tx following the service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be given to Redeemer Lutheran Church to support the ministry he and Evelin gave so much of their lives to.
