After a long illness, Elaine Davis, devoted wife, mother, and grandma died at home, March 05, 2010. Elaine, the youngest of six children, was born August 24, 1931 to Swedish parents, Ben and Lillie Sundbeck on a dairy farm near Manor, TX. After graduating from Manor High School, she began a successful modeling career while continuing her education in interior design. In 1951, Elaine married Wilbur Eugene Davis. They became the proud parents of Gene and Julie before he was tragically killed in a private plane crash in February 1962. In 1964, Elaine married Charles Bates (deceased), and moved her family to London England. This marriage ended in divorce, but one of Elaine's fondest memories was that while in London she was able to return to Sweden with her father. It had been 50 years since he left Sweden at age 19 to immigrate to America. She always said that this was the special trip of a lifetime! On a most unlikely blind date …… she met Bob Davis. In August 1985, some family and friends were invited to "what they thought" was a dinner party at Green Pastures Restaurant in Austin, but this was, in fact, Elaine and Bob's surprise wedding! Elaine joined Bob in his consulting business, and was responsible for the interior decoration of financial institutions in Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, Carrizo Springs, Crystal City, Beaumont, and Eagle Pass. Elaine is survived by her husband Bob Davis, son Gene Davis, daughter Julie Blake, son-in-law Bob Blake, and her grandchildren Brittni Graham, Davis Blake, Zack Davis, Ben Davis, and Shannon Davis. Also surviving are her sister Elnora, step-daughter Becky Longmore, and step-sons Latney Davis and Kevin Davis. Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Milton, Bennie, Obert, and Eldon Sundbeck. We will forever celebrate her life with joy and deep gratitude for the sweet love and care she always gave to each of us! Heart to Heart Hospice, we are eternally grateful to your entire staff! The many months of compassionate care and concern were a blessing to our family! Alice, we are so thankful for the many hours of special loving care you gave to Elaine each day! The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, TX. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 9, 2010 at the Smith Chapel at Riverbend Church, 4214 N. Capital of TX Hwy, Austin TX. Interment will follow at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery.
