Elana Noelle Myers, 18, of Austin, Texas, went to heaven on April 9th. Elana was a graduate of Bowie High where she was the Wing Commander of the JROTC, a member of the Lacrosse team and excelled scholastically. A spirit of service started at a young age and she volunteered for various organizations where she touched the lives of many. When in the 5th grade, she created a newspaper (using publisher without any instruction) and sold it to the neighbors. She donated the proceeds to the Dell Children’s Hospital. When in Maryland, she volunteered with the Carpenter’s Kitchen where she served meals to the homeless. When she did so, she treated the patrons there as if they were friends, joking with ease and laughing when they told her ‘Wow, you are a looker.’ Around age 7, she fell in love with horses. She loved riding horses and won many of the competitions she participated in. Although she did not continue riding in high school, she did continue to love horses and she recently had volunteered to groom horses for children who required horse therapy. With the JROTC, she had also volunteered for many other organizations and as commander, she coordinated these activities. She was awarded national and local awards for her leadership within the JROTC. She had considered pursuing ROTC participation in college and would likely have received a full scholarship…but she had other dreams.
She was a student at Texas Tech University where she had already begun to make an impact on her fellow students. After her first month, she was honored as the Texas Tech Student of the Month. She was active with her church youth group, community council and a member of the Woman’s Service Organization where she had continued helping others. She had decided to major in business and thought she would attend law school. She had plans to volunteer for Wendy Davis this summer as she had admired her and she was thinking of doing an internship in Washington, D.C., through a program at Texas Tech. She was a model with the Wilhelmina Brown Agency and was already achieving success. She had done a little print work in Austin and had a natural ability when it came to posing and she had an excellent fashion sense. During college, she had modeled for L-Viola-Vu and had plans to participate in other fashion shows in Lubbock during the spring. She was also photographed for the French magazine Fatice. She was returning from a modeling job in Austin when she had her automobile accident.
She had a terrific sense of humor and an immense capacity for loving others. Her excitement was contagious. She was an angel here on earth who lit up the room with her beautiful smile. She was full of life and had many dreams that she would have fulfilled. Although she was a stunning beauty and could do anything, she always worked to help others feel good about themselves. She was very competitive and goal-oriented. Most often, even if she did come out ahead, she would make you laugh and you would have had so much fun that you wouldn’t mind. She was a good role-model and friend for her sisters whom she adored.
She is survived by her parents, Michael and Tracy Myers, her beautiful sisters Sierra and Kinsey, grandparents John and Margaret Noack and Caroleann Myers. She is preceded in death by her grandfather, Donald Myers. She was also very close to her aunts, uncles and cousins. These include: Tamara Noack and Ray Mays, and their sons, Zachary, Travis and Jarrett Mays; Chris and Karen Eader and their daughters Kathleen and Becca Eader; Cliff Myers and Marcia Zercoe and their daughters Justyn and Madeline. She also had a special place in her heart for Colette LeMore who helped care for her when she was younger.
Service will be held at Mount Olive Lutheran Church Saturday, April 19th at 2:00 p.m. for everyone who loved Elana.
