

Born to Fortunata and Eustacio Rodriguez on March 16, 1941, in a house on 9th Street in Austin, Texas, he became known to family and friends as “Chai,” a nickname inspired by the TV show, The Cheyenne Kid. He married the love of his life, Adelina, on August 19, 1961, beginning a 64-year journey of love and devotion.
He served in the Army in Hawaii, returned home and started working at Economy Furniture making furniture. He moved the family to Fort Worth after he received his machinist certification and went to work for Putoma making parts for airplanes, after 8 years, they moved back to Austin, and he started working for A-Line Converters making catalytic converters. While doing that he attended night school to study data processing at ACC, a path that eventually led him to the Education Service Center at Region 13, where he worked for 29 years and completed his career.
A devoted member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church, Chai lived his faith boldly and joyfully. He served in many roles in the church, including leading the United Methodist Men, leading Bible Study, and was very active in the Walk to Emmaus Community.
Chai was known for his genuine kindness, steady faith, and a sense of humor that lifted others at just the right moment. He had a gift for seeing people who were often overlooked and offering help without hesitation. His devotion to his family, church, and community shaped a legacy rooted in love, resilience, and generosity. The impact of his life continues in the values he instilled and the people he nurtured across generations.
Chai is survived by his wife, Adelina Rodriguez; his children, Rueben Rodriguez, Martin Rodriguez (Coral), Reynaldo Rodriguez, Cynthia Carreon (Bill), and Richard Rodriguez (Linda); and his sister, Elizabeth Garcia. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fortunata and Eustacio, and his siblings Aurora Rodriguez, Eustacio Rodriguez, Mary Aleman, Elias Rodriguez, Eliseo Rodriguez, and Ezekiel Rodriguez.
A visitation will be held at Emmanuel United Methodist Church, located at 200 Brushy St, Austin, TX, 78702, on November 29, 2025, from 9:00 am to 10:45 am.
The funeral service will follow at the same venue from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm.
