Elizabeth was born on August 28, 1927, in Lancaster, Texas to Charles and Elizabeth Chapman. She was the youngest of six children. She graduated from the Texas State College for Women (Texas Women’s University). Elizabeth met Alfred Flieller at her family’s home when her brother brought him home for a holiday visit from training camp during World War II. Elizabeth and Alfred were married in 1948.
She taught business education courses at Austin, McCallum and Travis High Schools, taking a brief stint in her education career to raise her two children, Cheryl and James. In her last years of teaching, she taught Vocational Office Education where many of her students were trained and later employed at the IRS. After her retirement from teaching, she volunteered at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center and worked for the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
Elizabeth found many joys in life, including playing dominoes with her friends, traveling across the country on bus trips with her sister, and proudly sharing the accolades and accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren to anyone she met.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Alfred Flieller; sisters Christine Johnson, Mildred Fail, and brothers Curtis, Wilford and June Chapman. She is survived by her children, Cheryl Hiller (Phil) and James Flieller (Jane); grandchildren Sara Flieller Lauterbach (Phillip), Jennifer Flieller, Jeff Hiller (Elaine), and Lauren Hiller; great grandchildren Katherine and Madeline Hiller, Brynn, Ellie, and Tyler Lauterbach; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will be having a private burial.
