

Gene was born in Weimar, Texas on September 28, 1923, to William Robert and Lottie Janak Schneider who both preceded him in death. He grew up in Weimar, Luling, Houston, and Austin. His family moved to El Campo where he graduated from high school in 1942. As a young man, he served in North Africa during the final days of WWII. Upon his return, he graduated from The University of Texas achieving a BBA and MBA. He was recalled into military service at the beginning of the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Texas, Georgia, Turkey, Alaska, and Hawaii, with temporary duties in Vietnam throughout his military career.
Gene was a loyal supporter of The University of Texas, The Longhorn Band, a member of Kappa Kappa Psi and the UT Alumni Band. He was an avid reader. He was a Professor of Business Education, and taught at Southern Methodist University and the University of Alaska while in the service. After retirement from the military, he was proud to be one of the original fulltime faculty members of Austin Community College.
Gene was affiliated with the South Austin Civic Club and the Czech Heritage & Czech Genealogical Societies. He attended Kinney Avenue Christian Fellowship (formerly Kinney Avenue Baptist Church).
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 68 years, Melba Rose (Mobley) Schneider; two children, son Randall 'Randy'
Eugene Schneider and wife, Sharon, daughter Patricia 'Patti' Ann Klepacki; daughter-in-law Kathleen Schneider, widow of his eldest son; and four grandchildren, Kristin Ann, Andrea Lauren, Matthew Robert and Caitlin Marie Schneider. He is also survived by his sister (by marriage), Cathy Jeanne (Mobley) Smith and her husband, Gordon.
He was preceded in death by his eldest son, Robert Ray Schneider in July 2015.
The family will receive visitors Saturday, July 23, 2016, at 11:00 A.M. - 1:00 P.M., with a Funeral Service to follow at 1:00 P.M., at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
