Beloved wife and mother, Eva Hood Barnes, died peacefully on December 30, 2006 at home, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born March 24, 1929 to Albert and Maria Hood in Mission, Texas. She grew up in a loving, supportive home and was always determined to keep moving forward. She graduated from North Texas State University and then began a career in teaching. While teaching in Odessa, she met the love of her life, Jay Barnes. They were married for 54 years and shared an enduring, loving relationship. They lived in Austin until moving to their ranch near Bertram two years ago. She was dynamic and successful at her every endeavor. She taught school, raised two children, and then started a successful career in real estate. She had a strong Christian faith which she practiced everyday. She helped countless people, with little fanfare. She felt compelled to put people at ease and never met a stranger. With a sparkle in her eye, Eva enjoyed life to the fullest. She traveled the world with family and friends and doted on her grandchildren. Her fighting spirit the last twelve years since a stroke will continue to inspire us all. Dedicated caregivers cared for her the last years of her life at home. Their love and care ensured her the best possible quality of life. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Maria Barrera and Patricia Natera for their devotion. Her beloved husband Jay survives Eva. Surviving family includes her son Jay Barnes and wife Carol, grandchildren Dessa and Jay of Austin Texas; daughter, Ann Barnes and husband Paul Pumphrey, grandchildren Ava and Ollie of Bertram Texas; brother A.G. Hood and wife Rita, sister Marie Dicicco and husband Al, sister-in-law Helen Goodman and her husband Jack, as well as nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 3, 6 8 p.m. at Weed Corley-Fish Funeral Home. We will celebrate Evas life Thursday, 11 a.m., January 4 at First Baptist Church, 901 Trinity, in Austin.
