At age 21, Evan Michael Brown left us too soon; passing on Sunday, November 29, 2015. Evan was born in Virginia, where he lived for a few years before moving to Accokeek, MD. Shortly after his father's death in 2006, he and his older sister moved in with his maternal aunt in Austin, Texas, attending Deer Park Middle School and then graduating from McNeil High School in 2012. Evan was enrolled in the Engineering Program at McNeil and excelled in the Early Childhood Professions class where he worked as a teacher's assistant at Jollyville Elementary. The Jollyville teachers and students all loved Evan, and many of his other teachers reported that he such a joy to have in their classes.
Evan was a gregarious goofball who loved to be around people and always loved to joke around. He would use humor to lighten stressful events and sarcasm to get a rise out of people in his playful way. Evan was very thoughtful, caring, and liked to help others. His aunt would hear from neighbors and his friends' parents that he was so courteous and helpful; for example, volunteering to help the neighbor unload groceries from her car, or rinsing his dinner plate and placing in the dishwasher at a friend's sleepover, unprompted. Evan was a "cutie patootie" that everyone loved. His favorite class in school was art because he was very talented and creative. He drew, colored, and made 3D sculptures, toys, and models. He liked working with his hands and was planning to attend motorcycle mechanical school once he fulfilled his four-year Marine service. Like most young men his age, he loved to play video games.
Following in his father's footsteps, Evan enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school. He completed boot camp in September 2013, and then the School Of Infantry in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Private First Class Evan Brown then attended Supply School in order to earn his Military Occupational Specialty of 3043. On February 5th, 2014, he reported for duty with the Marine Corps Communication-Electronics School Supply Section at Twentynine Palms Marine Base in California. On August 1st, 2014, Evan was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal. During his service, Evan received the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Rifle Expert Badge.
Evan is survived by: sister Andrea Brown, half-sister Katie Comer, aunt & uncle/legal guardians Shawna (aka "Auntie Jen") & Milo Simpson, paternal grandparents Lyman & Maureen Brown, maternal grandparents Douglas & Lorna Baker, maternal great-grandfather Donald Baker, great-uncles and aunts Brian & Lora Baker, Andrea Kelly, Greg & Michelle Baker, cousins Jared & Mathew Baker, Alyssa & Michael Kelly, Gina and Malia Beckmann, biological mother Paula Brown Comer, former step-father James Comer, step-aunt Cassie Comer, and step-grandmother Teresa Comer and many other relatives and loving friends.
