

Florence Alice Peckenpaugh Clark passed away on June 8, 2010 in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born on November 4, 1914 in Kansas City, Missouri, the eldest child of Forrest & Freda Peckenpaugh. She was preceded in death by her son, Steven R. Clark, her husband, M. Ray Clark, and her brother Forrest Elsea Peckenpaugh.
Florence came to Corpus Christi at an early age with her parents. She graduated from Corpus Christi High School in 1932 and received her Bachelor’s Degree in 1936 from the University of Texas. She then taught school in Rockport and Corpus Christi before marrying M. Ray Clark of Austin, Texas in 1939. They made their home in Austin for 54 years.
Florence worked twenty years in the State Comptroller’s Office retiring in 1980. Before starting her career with the State of Texas, she was active in PTA and assisted her husband in the furniture business in Austin. She has been a long term member of the Texas Public Employees Association and an active member of the First Methodist Church in Austin for over 50 years, At the First United Methodist Church in Austin she served as a greeter for many years, was active in the Suanna Wesley Class, and in the Women’s Society. After her retirement, she was a long time volunteer at the Senior Activity Center in Austin.
She and Ray moved back to Corpus Christi in January 1994 to be with her family. She transferred her church membership to the First United Methodist Church and kept her membership in this church until her death. She was a member of the Jennie Hill Cooper Class, Lemonaders, and the A.D. Mer’s and Older Adults Ministries. She was also a member of the Thursday Music Club and enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of several bridge groups.
She is survived by her sister, Frances Esther Peckenpaugh Tabor, her sister-in-law, Billie Stewart Peckenpaugh, her nephews, Bob (Lynn) Tabor, Dick (Anna) Tabor, and her nieces, Jean (Clyde) Alexander, Linda (Dutch) Molenaar and Francie (J. P.) Jordan.
A memorial service will be held in Corpus Christi, Texas at the First United Methodist Church Chapel at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 12th. A graveside service and interment will be held at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. on Monday, June 14th with arrangements by Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home in Austin, Texas.
