Florida Joan Allen Davis died at home April 25, 2006. Resting surely in the arms of her Savior, we celebrate the life of a devoted wife, loving mother and faithful friend. Born in Salem, Illinois on December 4, 1926, Joan was the sixth child of Blanche and Charles Allen. At twenty-five, she moved to Farmington, New Mexico and there began her own family. Following an oil patch career, she bore children in Farmington, Midland and Odessa. She went on to live in Dallas, Tulsa, Wichita, Arlington, Virginia, Valparaiso, Indiana, Chicago and finally Wichita again. From there, she and her husband of thirty-four years retired in Austin. A lifelong banker, Joan loved a career that allowed her to work with, and care for, people. She met customers with an ever friendly smile and deep concern that their needs were being met. Rising from teller to Senior Vice President, Joan finished her career retiring from Fidelity Bank, Wichita. Raised Methodist, Joan was later a committed member of Eastminster Presbyterian Church in Wichita and Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin. She loved the fellowship that church activities brought and rejoiced in the community that the church was to her. Her faith sustained her and guided her life. She was ever present in the promise of the resurrection. Joan is survived by her devoted husband, Arthur L. Davis. She leaves four married children, Mr. and Mrs. William R. Schriber of Houston, Mr. and Mrs. C. Phillip Schriber of Austin, Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Schriber of Austin, and Mr. and Mrs. W. Scott Denny of Wichita. She has nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Also surviving Joan is her beloved sister, Mrs. Ralph Mire (Blanche) of Columbia, South Carolina. The family gives thanks for the tender care she received from Seton Hospital, Angel Healthcare, and Hospice Austin. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Covenant Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 27th from six oclock to eight oclock in the evening at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Interment will be at Austin Memorial Park on Friday, April 28th at fifteen past one oclock followed by a two oclock memorial service at Covenant Presbyterian Church.
