Fred Garrison Dupuy, M. D., passed away on February 11, 2016, during his 80th trip around the sun. Fred was born in Houston, Texas, graduated from St. John's High School where he played basketball and football and excelled in academics and looked forward to summer, spent at his grandparent's farm in Cedar Bayou and at Camp Cheley in Colorado. He attended Yale University for three years before transferring to the University of Texas at Austin where he completed his undergraduate studies. Dr. Dupuy did his medical training at U .T. Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, achieving Alpha Omega Alpha distinction. He went on to do his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. After completing his medical training, he served in the United States Ai r Force. Fred moved to Austin in 1969 where he practiced OB/Gyn for over 25 years, bringing thousands and thousands of babies into the world. He retired in 2000 and moved to his farm on the San Marcos River, where he was able to devote himself full-ti me to farming and raising a herd of cows that he loved to chase around the pastures with his dog Rocky and his side-kick David. It was during these years that he found a new peace and joy in a simpler life. The Dupuy's returned to Austin a few years ago as Dr. Dupuy's health went into decline. Throughout Fred's life there were two very strong commitments: the first and most precious was to his family, his children and their happiness and well-being and the second was to the friends and fellowship that he had here at the Unitarian Church. Fred leaves behind a legacy of helping deliver a generation of Austinites, service to his country, and was a beloved husband and father. He was predeceased by his daughter Claire and is survived by his wife Nina, four children, Amber, Melanie, Fred, and Paul, and five grandchildren Everett, Elliott, Chessa, Gus, and Sissie.
