She was proceeded in death by her husband Alfred Nash, and her siblings Mary Elizabeth Kirk, James W. White, Pearl A. White, and Ollie White Covington.
Garnis formed a union with Zion Rest Baptist Church on January 23, 2005, located in Austin, Texas.
Garnis was a proud and dedicated employee of the University of Texas at Austin. She began her career as a Baker at the Kinsolving Dormitory on October 10, 1972. She retired from U.T. as a Supervisor at the Jester Dormitory on August 31, 2002.
One of Garnis’s greatest gifts was her joy of cooking. She used this gift to impact many lives within the Austin community, and surrounding areas. She catered weddings and prepared baked goods for various organizations, friends, and family. She particularly loved baking for special occasions at her church.
Garnis is survived by her daughter, Carla Maria Nash; son, Gerald Nash; daughter-in-law Sylvia Nash; grandsons Sterling Ryan Nash and Jeffery Allen Nash; Jeffery’s wife Ricole A. Nash; great-grandchildren Santana R. Nash, Za’naijah B.Nash, Texas R. Nash, Austin J. Nash, Amia J. Nicole, and Braylon A. Nash; brother-in-law, Melvin Nash, and sisters-in-laws Jean George and Elizabeth Nash, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Friday, October 14, 2022, at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral Home located at 6300 West William Cannon Drive, Austin, Texas 78749.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022, at 10:00 am at Zion Rest Baptist Church located at 3326 Paisano Trail, Austin, Texas 78745. The dining hall will be open at 9am for morning beverages.
Graveside services will immediately follow at Cook-Walden Forest Oaks Funeral home.
Pallbearers will be members of the Zion Rest Baptist Church Men’s Ministry.
Honorary pallbearers; Gerald Nash, Sterling Nash, Jeffery Nash, Larry Hatch, and John L. Griffin.
