

She was born in Chicago, Illinois on October 26, 1938, the daughter of Albin Mitchell and the former Shirley Siegert. Gloria lived in Chicago until 1953 when she moved to Denver, Colorado. She graduated in 1957 from West High School, Denver, Colorado as a member of the Honor Society. After graduation, she attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colorado on a 4 year scholarship majoring in Psychology and Sociology with minors in English and Education. While in college, she joined Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority and became an active member serving as rush chairman and a representative of both the Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic League. It was also at Western State College she met her late husband, Dr. James Louis Kinneavy, former University of Texas English professor. They were married in 1961.
Gloria and James moved to Austin, Texas in 1963 eventually settling in Oak Hill, Texas where she resided until her death. She was employed by The Internal Revenue Service as a tax examiner for many years. After retiring from the IRS she worked as a media specialist for Metro Media and MCI, and was named Whose Who in Austin Business Women in 1988 and 1989. Gloria was a consummate animal lover and spent many hours caring for her animals, as well as volunteering for the Humane Society of Austin.
She remained active and full of life up until her death. She enjoyed shopping, eating out, socializing and hunting for bargains with her family and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by both her parents in addition to her husband, James. She is survived by her two daughters, Kathleen Druian (Kinneavy) wife of Scott Druian of Atlanta, GA, and Janice Kinneavy of Austin, TX. She is also survived by her three granddaughters; Alexandra Druian, Haley Druian, and Lindsey Blevins (Jeremy), and her great-grandson Ethan Blevins. Gloria’s life was greatly enriched by several friends, including her dear friend Sue, as well as Nancy, Yolanda, Vivian, and Caroline. Gloria was loved by many and was described as someone who never met a stranger. Her kindness to others knew no bounds. She was always willing to help those in need, including many stray animals that eventually became part of her family. She was truly admired for her love and dedication to others.
The family will receive visitors from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 15, 2014. Memorial Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Cook-Walden/Forest Oaks Funeral Home.
In honor of Gloria, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Humane Society of Austin, American Lymphoma and Leukemia Society or your favorite charity.
