Gloria Ann Mendieta, beloved, generous, caring and giving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, born July 11, 1951 to Trinidad and Frances Mendieta in Austin, Texas passed away surrounded by her partner and daughters on February 7, 2021.
Gloria Mendieta retired from the Texas House of Representatives after many years of service.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Trinidad and Frances Mendieta; brother, Eugene Mendieta; and granddaughter, Chelsea Galindo.
Gloria is survived by her partner, Sam Balades; daughters, Lisa Tovar (Andrew Tovar), Brenda Benavides (Adolf Carmona), Michele Benavides (Rene Acosta), Amy Benavides; sisters, Janie Whitehead (Harold Whitehead), Mary Mendoza (beloved Johnny Mendoza); brothers, Zeke Mendieta (Patty Mendieta), Edward Mendieta (Virginia Mendieta); grandchildren, Cassandra Escalante, Carrisa Stiles (Steve Stiles), Isaac Soria (Christina Soria), Joey Rios, Eric Rios (Samantha Rios), Richard Ramos, Mark Matthew Galindo, Celeste Galindo; 15 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who loved her and will sadly miss her.
Visitation 9:00 am - 11:30 am on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 2620 South Congress Avenue.
Funeral Mass 1:00 pm on Thursday, February 25, 2021 at St. Julia Catholic Church, 900 Tillery.
Interment to follow at Assumption Cemetery.
