On July 24, 1992, Gregory was born in Dallas, Texas, to Brian and JoAnn Saathoff. In 1995 the family moved to Austin, Texas where Gregory spent his educational years.
Gregory was truly the life of the party. He had a big personality, a quick wit, and a rare ability to connect with anyone he met. He made people feel included, comfortable, and appreciated.
Gregory had many natural gifts. He was an incredible runner, known for flying up the River Place Hill with such speed that neighbors would follow him in their cars just to track his pace. He also had an exceptional memory and a musical talent to learn songs on his guitar instantly.
He loved college football and playing fantasy football. For the last 12 years he made sure the same group of people came together annually for his fantasy football league, valuing tradition, camaraderie, and connection.
Gregory also had a passion for movie production and had the opportunity to work on the film Left Behind, where he had the chance to run lines with Nicolas Cage. It was an experience he was proud of.
We recently learned that Gregory had an enlarged heart. In many ways this feels fitting as he wore his heart on his sleeve, loving deeply, giving freely, and caring loudly. His laughter, generosity, and unforgettable presence will live on in all who knew and loved him.
Gregory’s legacy will endure forever through his parents, Brian and JoAnn Saathoff; his twin sister, Carrington Saathoff; his beloved children, Rylan (9) Gracelynn (4) Saathoff, Grandfather Joseph Busta and several family and friends.
Gregory is preceded in death by his grandparents Dixie and Dale Saathoff (Cedar Falls, Iowa), Elsie Busta (Cresco, Iowa), and Uncle Joe Busta (Waterloo, Iowa).
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17th, at 1:30 pm at Riverbend Church Smith Chapel, 4124 North Capital of Texas Highway, Austin, Texas 78746.
