

Harold Gene Patterson, 83, died on November 15, 2014 in Austin. Gene was born in Houston, Texas on January 1, 1931 to C.L. and Era Ann Patterson. He received his B.A. degree in Bible, Magna Cum Laude, from Abilene Christian University and his Master's in New Testament from Harding University. Gene met Lucretia Farrar, a teacher at Harding Grade School, in 1953. They were married on August 29, 1954 at Hillsboro Church of Christ in Nashville, TN. Gene taught Bible and Greek at York College in Nebraska from 1956-59. He was Director of the Bible Chair at University Ave. church of Christ in Austin 1959-1971, was head chaplain for the Texas Youth Council for two years, and was Bible Chair director at Angelo State University 1972-76.
He is survived by his wife, Lucretia, two sons, Mark (Fran) Patterson and Jeff (Jan) Patterson, and two daughters, Kay (Brent) Magner and Sara (Chris) Boyer. They have thirteen grandchildren: Teal (Jonathan) Hartman, Joy (Ben) Langford, Jessica (Sam) Selby, Jaimie (Will) Morgan, Joshua Patterson, Julia Patterson, Daniel Magner, Jennie Magner, Caleb Magner, Ann Magner, Emilee Boyer, Scott Boyer, and Ella Kate Boyer. There are 4 great-grandchildren: Elijah and Emeline Langford, and Gabriel and Brooklynn Selby. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Boone, and several nieces and nephews.
Gene was truly a gentle-man. He leaves a legacy as a faithful son, husband, father, grandfather, excellent teacher, elder, and most importantly, a servant of Jesus Christ our Lord. Thank you, Gene, for years of spiritual leadership to our family, the church and many friends. The Apostle John states that "perfect love casts out fear". The Apostle Paul said, "Now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love."
Visitation will be Sunday, November 23 from 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 N. Lamar, Austin, TX.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Westover Hills Church of Christ, 8332 Mesa Drive. A private burial service will be at Forest Oaks Memorial Park.
