

Dr. Stephens was born in Edinburg, TX to Cecil & Maggie Stephens.
He attended Edinburg public schools and Pan American University. Years later he attended the University of Texas –Southwestern Medical School. He practiced numerous fields of medicine in Show Low, AZ; Edinburg and McAllen, TX. He finished his practice of medicine as Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at Valley Baptist Medical Center in Harlingen, TX.
Prior to medical school Dr. Stephens served in the United States Air Force with deployment to the Korean War. He departed the service in 1955 with the rank of Staff Sargent.
Dr. Stephens was an avid outdoorsman who loved his time fishing off the waters of Port Mansfield with his friends and family. He enjoyed hunting with his buddies in Mexico and in the brush country of South Texas. He loved traveling with his wife to many beach destinations.
Dr. Stephens and the love of his life, Rosie, were married 45 years.
After suffering for years from numerous illnesses, we want to thank Dr. J. Williamson, Dr. J. Dieck, Dr. G. Nair, and Hospice Austin for the comfort and compassionate care they provided in the last months of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Rosie Stephens; his brother, Norman Stephens; his children, Margaret S. Dawson, Thomas C. Stephens, Charles J. Stephens, Cecilia S. Rodriguez, and Linda S. Willey; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church of Austin on January 21, 2017 at 1 pm..
