She attended schools in Pflugerville and continued her education at Texas Lutheran College and the University of Texas. She married Rev. Herbert A. Knebel in Pflugerville on February 7, 1929. Hertha devoted her life to others; her husband and children, family members and friends. She was always present or available with a kind word and/or action either in person or by letter or telephone. She had an amazing memory, and one of her great pleasures was recalling Pfluger family genealogy information and family anecdotes in detail. She was an active member of University Presbyterian Church. She never met a stranger, and enjoyed nothing more than sharing life and experiences with family and friends, old and new. She carried on extensive correspondence with many, including cousins in Germany. She translated letters of her mothers and fathers and incorporated them into a memoir which is treasured by family members. Until his death in 1987 she worked side-by-side with her husband, Herbert, in various activities, and will be remembered by many as a pastors wife, and as his assistant in maintaining youth baseball fields and the Optimists Christmas tree lot in Austin.
