
Ida Marrine Foster Courtney was born to James and Jesse Foster on December 1, 1923 in Anna, Texas. She died August 9th at Retirement and Nursing Center in Austin, TX. Ida graduated from Yoe High School in Cameron, Texas and obtained undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Texas at Austin and Texas State University. Ida was an educator with the Austin Independent School District for more than 30 years. She taught home economics at Fulmore Junior High before starting her family. She later became a librarian at Blanton Elementary School, LBJ High School and ended her 30 year plus career with the Austin Independent school district as administrator of library services. Ida was preceded in death by her parents James and Jessie Foster, her brother James T Foster, JR, daughter Rebecca Courtney Wymer and son John Sidney Courtney. She is survived by her daughters Phyllis Courtney Beckham of Round Rock, TX, and Sylvia Courtney of La Grange, TX, son and daughter-in-law Wallace Reid Courtney II and Cheri of Pflugerville, TX, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, her sister and brother-in-law Era and Rex Woodard and sister and brother-in-law Marjorie and Jack Hawkins and numerous nieces and nephews. Ida lived life to the fullest; she was a loving mother, devoted friend, role model and mentor. She devoted her life to caring for others, and her door was always open to those in need. Ida will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday August 12th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral home with Funeral service to be 1:00 p.m. on Monday August 13th in the funeral home chapel. Graveside services to follow at Liberty Hill Cemetery at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Austin, American Heart Association or Central Texas Childrens Home. The family would like to express their thanks and appreciation to the staff at Retirement and Nursing Center for taking excellent care of Ida for the last two years and to the staff of Hospice Austin for their tremendous help and support.
