Irene went to meet her heavenly father on November 30th, 2025, just shy of her 96th birthday. Irene was born on December 28, 1929 in Thrall, Texas to Cornelia Shiller Leatherwood and Lee Leatherwood. Irene was predeceased by her husband Johnny Crow, sisters Lillian Pickoff (Leo), Margie Bodah (Irvin), Albina "Babe" Fitzgerald (Gene), brother Benny Leatherwood (Shirley), and her sister-in-law Ann Crow Happ (Jack) and cousins Billy and Lester Shiller.
She is survived by her four daughters, Janine Parrish (Ron), Cherie McMahan, Julie Evans (Jock) and Melanie Reck (Michael); her grandchildren Heather Parrish, Melissa Gibson (Jonathon), Bowen Parrish (Sydney), Christel Sanchez, Carissa McMahan, Zachary and Madison Evans and Isabelle Szepatowski, as well as step-grandkids Colin Evans and Peyton and Chase Reck. She is also survived by nine great- grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
Irene grew up moving between her family’s farms in Thrall and Callaham. When her mom passed away, she and her sister Babe were raised and lived with her Aunt Bena and Uncle Bill, cousins Billy, Lester, and Carolyn Shiller. After graduating from Taylor High school, she moved to Houston, then to Austin, where she met and married Johnny on August 17, 1952.
Irene was a devoted Christian and her home was open to anyone who needed a place to stay and her heart was always open to serving others. She was a talented seamstress, gardener and played a mean game of dominoes, which she took very seriously. Most of all, Irene was a loving and doting wife, mother, and grandmother to her family. These are the things she will be remembered for the most.
The family would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and resident family at Buda Oaks Assisted Living and Memory Care, where she was cared for and lived for the last year and a half. There, she met a dear friend and kindred soul, Joyce, and was very happy in her final chapter of life.
