Jackie was born on February 2, 1934, in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a proud graduate of the University of Texas and a member of the Chi Omega sorority, where she made lifelong friendships that she cherished and cultivated throughout her life. On July 16, 1955, she married her first love, Bill Milstead, in a gown she made herself and began the adventure of a lifetime as his wife, business supporter, traveling companion, and best friend. Together they loved to travel, sail, snow ski and fish.
Jackie had many talents including modeling, sewing, needlepointing, knitting, gardening, fishing, waterskiing, snow skiing, cooking, entertaining and supporting her favorite charities. Her warm, welcoming and generous nature made all her friends and guests feel like family. In addition to her love of family and friends, she loved the Austin community and supported it throughout her lifetime, by giving both her time and resources as a dedicated member of the Junior League of Austin, and the Settlement Club of Austin, as well as supporting the Austin Community Foundation.
Perhaps Jackie’s favorite role was as grandmother to her three Grandchildren. She taught them many life lessons and spent quality time with them traveling and attending many of their extracurricular activities.
In her many roles as wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, great aunt and friend, she will be remembered for her loyalty, her contagious smile, her generous nature, and her ability to genuinely live in the moment. We will also never forget her amazingly positive outlook on life and her ability to find the bright side of any situation.
Jackie is predeceased by her husband William C. Milstead and her son Matt. She is survived by her son Mark and his wife Phyllis and her grandchildren Robert Milstead, Jay (and Lexi) Milstead, and Jill (and Ben) Osgood, along with two generations of nieces and nephews who loved her dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd (3201 Windsor Road) on Dec. 2, 2022 at 3:30pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The Settlement Home for Children or the Austin Community Foundation fund for Jacqueline Wheeler Milstead.
