Jan Scurlock

Jan grew up in Dallas and attended Highland Park schools. Her college career at the University of Texas was interrupted by John Scurlock, with whom she celebrated 61 years of marriage prior to his passing in 2015.

Jan was a loving and devoted Air Force wife who became a tremendous asset to John as he advanced in his banking career in Dallas and later in Austin. She was comfortable and accomplished at entertaining in her home and elsewhere, loved accompanying her husband to events in Austin and around the state and nation and enjoyed a wide array of friends in various venues and through a variety of clubs, sports and activities.

She excelled as a mother to three sons, and later as a “Mimi” to her expanding family. Jan was happiest when all her family was around her and was the head chef of some legendary holiday meals.

She was a woman of faith and this aspect of her life became more important and real to her as the years passed. She was a faithful member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Austin.

Jan is survived by her sister Anne Blakeney (and husband Robert); three sons - Stephen (and wife Becky) of Georgetown, David of San Antonio, and John, Jr. (and wife Anna) of Leander; six grandchildren - Matt Scurlock (and wife McKensey) of Richardson, Michael Scurlock (and wife Whitney) of Salida, Colorado, Ryan Fowler (and husband Daniel) of Smithville, David Scurlock, Jr.(and wife Cassidie) of Monroe, Virginia, John III (Trace) Scurlock of Pflugerville, and Haley Scurlock of New Braunfels; and ten great grandsons.

Our family wishes to thank the amazing staff at Westminster for their caring attention for more than a decade. We are eternally grateful.

In accordance with Jan’s wishes, the family will gather for a graveside burial service. We ask that contributions to honor Jan be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church, The Westminster CARES Foundation, The Settlement Home for Children or a charity of your choice.
