Jane Ann Rankin passed away on Monday, May 15, 2006. She was born October 21, 1926 in Dallas, Texas to Clifford and Ailene Jones. Her parents moved to Jackson, MS in 1940. She and her sister, Betty, graduated from high school in Jackson. Jane and Betty were attending the University of Southern Mississippi, when Jane met Ed Rankin, playing tennis. They were married September 25, 1948. Ed accepted a commission into the Army in May 1949. As an Army wife, Jane moved frequently 25 times or more. Jane was active in miscellaneous activities in her life such as tennis, bowling, swimming, water skiing, golf, and extensive travel in Mexico, Canada, and Europe. Dancing to Big Band music was especially appealing to her. Other interests included singing in the church choir for over 35 years, which she enjoyed very much. Jane is survived by her husband, Ed, of over 58 years; a daughter, Jeanette Rankin; a grandson, Jeffrey Hale; and numerous nieces and nephews. Janes favorite animals, Peke and Poo, are obviously missing her very much. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19th at the Lakeway Church, 2203 Lakeway Blvd. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials in Janes name be made to Alzheimers Association of Austin, 3429 Executive Center Blvd, Austin, TX 78731.
