Dr. Thompson is survived by his wife Louise H. Thompson, his brother James C. “Pat” Thompson Jr., and his cousin Dr. Robert Clark. He was born in Mission, Texas on November 24,1943, the son of Audrey Noel Thompson and James C. Thompson. He graduated from Mission High School in 1961, and then attended the University of Texas at Austin where he earned a degree in Chemistry and was a member of the Navy ROTC. He joined the U.S. Navy after graduation in 1966, and served as a naval aviator for almost six years, including tours of duty on the U.S.S America during the Vietnam war.
After completing his service in the U.S. Navy, Dr. Thompson attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical school in 1972. Upon graduation in 1976 he began a three year residency at Park Lane Memorial hospital in Dallas. He began his service in family care in 1979 in northwest Austin.
The family thanks the many caregivers who were involved in Dr. Thompson’s care.
