

She was born with a twin brother, William Howard (Bill), in New Baden, Texas (Robertson County) to Ellington Elwell (Ellis) and Grace Mildred (Spangler) Wheeless. Their younger brother E.E., Jr. (Duke) was born in Eddy, Texas on November 19, 1928.
She was born spiritually into the Kingdom of Christ at the age of seven at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, where her father was pastor. He baptized her with 24 others in Onion Creek. She wrote the story of her father and family (ANOTHER WEEPING PROPHET) in 1994.
She retired in 1985 after 25 years (1960-1985) as a teacher in Austin Public Schools: University Jr. High; Martin Jr. High and McCallum High School; editor of AAT’s “Bulletin Board” (1972-1973); editor of TRTA’s “Bulletin” (1986-1988); established elementary grades in Maizuru, Japan, on an Army Base with her husband, 1948-1949; Visiting teacher in Hill County Schools, 1949-1951; Teacher in High School, Belle, Missouri, 1956-1959; Principal/teacher in county school near Rolla, Missouri, 1959-1959.
A member of Hyde Park Baptist Church, she was a teacher in the EXCEL Singles Department of the Sr. Adult Division; pianist and creative writing teacher in the Friendship International Program (1985-2005); served as president of Baptist Women (Adult Division of Women’s Missionary Union) (1990-1993); wrote THE HISTORY OF WOMAN’S MISSIONARY UNION IN TEXAS and HYDE PARK BAPTIST CHURCH (1834-1994); pianist and seminar leader for Highland’s Adult Retreats; seminar leader for Singles Retreats at Highland’s.
Preceded in death by her husband, Chaplain (Lt.Col.) John H. Brown; parents, Rev. E.E. Wheeless, Sr.; and son, Kenneth Burges Brown.
Survived by son, David Spangler Brown and grandsons Darryl Franklin and Derrek Allen; daughter, Melody Bahr and granddaughters Jessica Grace and Linda Suzanne; great-grandchildren Kenneth Gibson Putnam and Kehna Anne Bahr-Morris.
Twin brother, William H. (Bill) Wheeless, Sr. with son Robert nephew, Bill Jr. and wife Karon and daughter Mrs. Amy Patillo with husband Jon and son Jonah.
Younger brother Rev. E.E. (Duke) Wheeless, Jr. and wife Alleen: niece Karen, nephews Steven, Craig and Greg and their families.
Sue Milmon and children and grandchildren who became our children because of the Japanese experience.
Shubh Bala, her daughter, Dr Era Norris and husband, and son Amitabh. They became part of the family through FRIENDSHIP INTERNATIONAL in 1994.
Visitation at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home: 3125 N. Lamar Blvd on Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011 from 5-7pm. Funeral Services also at the funeral home on Friday morning at 10am. Graveside service following immediately at Cook Walden-Capital Parks Cemetery in Pflugerville.
