

Joe D. Adams Joe D. Adams passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, January 2, 2005, at his home near Elgin, Texas with his family there with him. Joe was born January 3, 1909, in Williamson County near Hutto, Texas to William Mitch Adams and Nellie Mae Alexander Adams. He was the eighth of nine children, all of whom preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife of sixty-six years, Mary Boer Adams, and his children: Thomas J. and Marie Adams of Manor, Patricia A. and Billy Martin of Elgin, James D. (Dan) Adams of Elgin, Rose Mary and Jimmie Zamzow of San Antonio, thirteen grandchildren: Sheila Smith, Brenda Bush, Ann English, Scott Martin, Leah Douglas, Kathryn Sloma, Joe Martin, Allison and Mary (Meggie) Adams, James Zamzow, Julia Collins, Justin and Jeanne Zamzow; one granddaughter, Julia Marie Adams, preceded him in death. Fourteen great grandchildren survive him: Trent Arbuckle, Alex and Jacob Kennon, Erynn Adam and Allison English, Ethan and Wyatt Bush, Will and Jenna Martin, Brady and Addison Douglas, Peyton Martin and Taylor Thompson. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive him. During his first year in Austin, Joe attended Nixon Clay Business College and worked part-time for the Texas Highway Department from 1929 to 1934. After graduation from Business College in 1934, Joe started working full time in the Accounting Section at the Highway Department where he worked for the next forty years. In 1934, Joe met Mary Boer who worked nights in the keypunch section for the Highway Department. They married on January 29, 1938 in Bandera, Texas and made South Austin their home for the next fifty years. They were active participants in the founding organization for St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church and remained faithful members until their move to Elgin in 1984. In Elgin, they became members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church until his death. Joe loved baseball and played on one of the two Highway Department teams until he was fifty years old. Then, he continued his love of baseball by supporting his children and grandchildren in their sports pursuits. After his retirement in 1974, Joe farmed and ranched in and around Bastrop and Williamson Countries for the next twenty years. Joe worked hard all his life, loved his family, and set a tremendous example for his children. Mary, his children, and grandchildren were his life and we thank God for giving us this special person as husband, father, and Pop. Joe received kind and loving care from Elgin Golden Years Home during his brief stay there. His family is also grateful to Odyssey Hospice for their compassionate care for Dad and his family during his last days. The family would like to express sincere appreciation to Father Juan Maravilla and the Eucharistic ministers from Sacred Heart Church for their constant spiritual care of him. Rosary services will be at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, January 4, 2005, at Wilke-Clay-Fish Funeral Home in Austin. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, January 5, 2005, at St. Ignatius Martyr Catholic Church with entombment in Assumption Mausoleum. Honoring him as active pallbearers will be Scott Martin, Joe Martin, James Zamzow, Justin Zamzow, Trent Arbuckle, and Cody Douglas. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmie Zamzow, Billy A.
