

Joe T. Harren, 77, of Austin, Texas, formerly of Weslaco, Texas, died on Friday, April 2, 2016, surrounded by his wife Mary Ellen and their family at his bedside. Joe was born on January 10, 1939. He graduated from Weslaco High School in 1957, and from the University of Texas in 1961, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He served in the United States Army as a commissioned officer. Joe held his CPA license after graduating from college.
Following his retirement from public accounting, he pursued his passion in the citrus industry and was the owner of Golden Raintree Gardens. He was a past member of the Weslaco Kiwanis Club. All who knew him loved him for his perspective, generosity, wit, putting others above himself and above all his gentle kindness. One of his greatest pleasures in life was spending time with his 3 grandchildren, Jenny, Tyler & Natalie.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Ellen, his 2 sons, Steve and Doug, daughter-in-law, Amy, 3 grandchildren, his brother Richard (Velda) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George & Lucille Harren, and his brother George (Clay).
A Graveside Service will be held at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at Cook Walden/Forest Oaks Memorial Park. A private Celebration of Joe’s Life will be held in their Austin home.
