As a decorated combat Veteran, Joe fought in both the Korean War and Vietnam Conflict and retired as a 1st Sergeant in the U.S. Army. Upon retirement, he further served his country by working for the United States Postal Service.
Joe is survived by his wife Dixie of 67 years; sisters Charlotte and Louise; daughter, Mary Ann Whicker and her husband Elmer; sons, Joe G. Merry Jr and wife Margaret and Marc L. Merry and wife Patty; six grandchildren and three great granddaughters. As an Austin resident for 44 years, he will not only be missed by his family but many friends and neighbors.
His life will be celebrated, Saturday, 26 May 2018 at 3:00 PM at Weed-Corley-Fish, 3125 North Lamar in Austin Texas.
