Joe Winfred Torn passed away peacefully on March 4, 2021. Mr. Torn was born October 18, 1933, in Georgetown, Texas. A wonderful, kind, and generous soul, he joined the US Air Force after high school, saving his salary so he could buy an Austin home for his parents, Albert and Camilla. He served in both the Korean and Vietnam wars, marrying his wife Barbara in between, and they traveled the world to stations in France, Alaska, and Taiwan, among other locations. His son, Luke, was born in 1961. In 1973, the family settled back in Austin, and Joe spent his life caring for family and friends, attending as a devoted member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church, and serving the US Post Office with distinction until his retirement in 2001. This newfound freedom meant time for him to take art classes at ACC, indulge his love of reading, travel extensively with Barbara, and enjoy lots of playtime with his grandson, Carter.
Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara, son and daughter-in-law Luke and Kathleen, grandson Carter, and many family members and close friends.
