Johanna Williamson Bible was born December 21, 1926, and passed from this earth May 9, 2026, at the age of 99 years. She was born in a small farmhouse in Leander, TX. She graduated from Leander High School in 1944 in a class of 12 seniors. Johanna later went to work in Georgetown for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company.
On December 28, 1944, Johanna married Jack Allen Bible who was serving in the U. S. Navy in Washington D. C. during World War II. After the war, Jack and Johanna moved to Austin, TX where Jack worked as an electrician and she was a stay-at-home mom.
Johanna was always there for her three sons, encouraging them in school, baseball, swimming, attending and singing in church, and fishing.
She was an avid reader – the Bible, fiction and non-fiction books – and the Austin American Statesman newspaper, from the back to the front.
Johanna loved fishing – let her get the rod and reel, tackle box, bait and hat – she was ready to go. She would stay on the dock until 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. fishing with one of her sons. As a child, she helped her dad set and run trotlines before Mansfield Dam was built. She, her mom and dad and sister, Myrvle, caught many catfish “monsters” on the Colorado shoreline.
She grew up in the country milking cows, shucking corn, churning butter, picking cotton, picking roasting ears (corn) and digging potatoes. She was very acquainted with the cold of hog killing days and praying for rain on 100 degrees plus in the scorching Texas heat.
She loved to sing, involving the entire family and always loved to hear her sons sing.
Johanna and Jack were active members of Crestview United Methodist Church for 30-plus years. She sat on many church committees and helped organize programs for seniors which included Thursday Fellowship and Double 5’s. Both programs included a meal with games and fellowship. She was also devoted member of the church quilting group, making hundreds of baby quilts.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Allen Bible, parents, Leslie and Eula Williamson, sons, Thomas Allen and Edward Keith Bible. She is survived by her son, Gary Wayne Bible and his wife, Linda, and daughters-in-law, Beth and Cathy Bible and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
