

John Neff Ramsey, age 85, of Austin passed away on Wednesday, May 9, 2007. He was born in Austin to Sumner and Sonora Divers Ramsey on February 18, 1922, the youngest of six children. John graduated from Austin High School where he lettered in basketball. He attended both the University of Texas and Baylor University. At Baylor, he was a founding member of the Baylor Chapter of Sigma Delta Chi, honorary Journalism Fraternity, and the Editor of the Daily Lariat. He also worked as a state editor and columnist for the Austin Tribune. John served in the U.S. Navy amphibious forces during WWII as a combat correspondent, receiving a Letter of Commendation. He was a sales representative for Taylor Publishing Co. and L.G. Balfour (vice-president of Southwestern Balfour Co.) for 25 years and then the co-owner and operator of the Canine Hilton for 35 years. John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. His wife, Edith Maxine Ramsey, preceded him in death. Survivors include his son, Dr. Mark Ramsey and three grandchildren, Karen, Lindsay and David, all of Tupelo, Mississippi. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 14th at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15, 2007 in the Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel followed by burial at Oakwood Annex Cemetery.
