

John J. Willingham (Pa to his grandchildren), passed away peacefully at his home on April 19, 2006 surrounded by his family. He was 71. Mr. Willingham was born in Charleston, Illinois. During his academic career, he received a B.A. from Eastern Illinois University (where he later received an Honorary Doctorate), a Masters degree from Penn State University and a Ph.D. from Ohio State University. After receiving his Ph.D., he served as Professor of Accounting at Penn State University; University of Texas at Austin, University of Texas Arlington, and the University of Houston. During these years he authored several widely used Accounting and Auditing textbooks, some of which were translated into various languages. In 1978 he joined KPMG Peat Marwick in the executive office in New York City as partner in charge of audit research for the firm world-wide. He retired from public accounting in 1993 and moved to Austin where he taught at the University of Texas until 1997. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Carol Lanehart Willingham, son John Willingham and wife Carolyn, son Scott Willingham and wife Jody, son Andy Willingham, daughter Lynna Lichtenberger and husband John and son Mark Ritter and wife Leslie, all of Austin, Texas. Surviving grandchildren are Russell and Jonica Willingham, Jay and Timmy Willingham, Hannah Willingham, Jared, Paige and Reid Lichtenberger and Christopher and Caroline Ritter. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 22, 2006 from 4:00 6:00 p.m. at the family residence.
