

Joseph Driver Bacon, Jr. of Austin, Texas passed away on the 4th day of February 2011 after a lengthy illness. He was born the 3rd day of January 1923 in central Texas to Joseph Driver Bacon and Georgia Mae Wallace Bacon.
Mr. Bacon attended Tarleton College and the University of Texas before joining the Marine Corps in 1942, where he served as a Sea Marine and saw combat in the Aleutian Islands. He was injured in battle and spent 6 months in the hospital. Joseph was indeed an honored military hero.
He was a church-goer all of his adult life and served as Deacon for the Austin Baptist Church at the time of his death.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lois Riley Bacon, who was his strength and comfort over the last difficult year. He is also survived by his brother, Dan Wallace Bacon, M.D. of Kerrville, Texas; children, Joseph D. Bacon III, John Bacon, and Kathleen Bailey, all of Texas; two granddaughters, Jennifer and Johanna, and one great granddaughter, Meridith, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Billie Jean Wright, and a granddaughter, Uvahna Bacon.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to the congregation of Austin Baptist Church, the Veterans Administration, VistaCare, and Austin Hospice.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six o’clock in the evening until eight o’clock in the evening on Tuesday the 8th day of February 2011. Funeral services will be held at ten o’clock in the morning, on Thursday the 10th day of February under the direction of Cook-Walden Funeral Home in Austin. Interment will follow at the Garden of Memories in Kerrville.
