Josephine (Jo) Tezeno-Fontenot, 84, was born July 30, 1940, in St Landry Parish near Washington, Louisiana to Joseph and Mary Steven-Tezeno. Josephine Fontenot was a dedicated daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Josephine played a vital role in countless lives throughout her life’s journey. Jo guided many on their “walk by faith and not by sight journey”, 2 Corinthian 5:7 (KJV). Jo has constantly told people, “It’s not what it looks like, but what God has said”. Josephine’s undeterred belief in the word of God has propelled her walk of faith in the following churches: United Baptist Church in Okinawa, Japan, Macedonia Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama, the Gospel Hour in Zweibrucken, Germany, Daleville Baptist Church Daleville, Alabama, Southwest Baptist Church, Friendly Will Baptist Church and Maranatha Faith Center all in Austin, Texas and associated with Victory Chapel El Paso, Texas, Agape Christian Ministries Round Rock, Texas, Christian House of Prayer Copperas Cove, Texas, Mercy and Grace Ministries and a host of others.
As a pastor's wife, Jo, encouraged other first ladies to seek the Lord through prayer and supplication. Jo knew that without God’s covering (divine protection and intervention) ministry work would be in vain. Jo’s confidence in God opened doors for her to integrate women’s prayer groups in communities locally and abroad with the assurance that “prayer changes things”. Jo’s life reflects the two greatest commandments, “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, all thy soul, and with thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is the like unto it, thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself”, Matthew 22: 37-39 (KJV). Jo gave her best to all that were in need spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Although Jo and Floyd (husband) have transitioned, their love for you has NOT.
Josephine Tezeno-Fontenot leaves her legacy to carry on with her devoted sons Patrick (wife Angela), Mitch (wife Audrey), and Floyd Jr. (wife Lucy), her eight (8) grandchildren and eleven (11) great-grandchildren along with a host of nephews, nieces and friends. And her memories of her brother Albert Tezeno. Family members preceded in transition were her parents Joseph & Mary Tezeno, and her siblings Murphy, Matthew, Jack, Herbert, Wilbert, Marylene Jones, and Elma Andrus.
Thank you gracious Lord, for this special woman of God Josephine Fontenot. You have uniquely equipped her with tremendous gifts of the Holy Spirit. She supported her husband and was essential in helping him to serve you and pastor your people. She has worked alongside him and blessed every path she crossed. Additionally, she, Josephine, has managed her household with strength and honor and when she speaks one is overwhelmed with generosity and kindness. I pray that you would bless her with your eternal gifts for her candle goeth not out and that you would guard her family time and her time with you, and that you will be her rest and joy forevermore.
