Josephine Dickens Newburn, age 90, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend passed away on May 4, 2009. Jo was born in Austin, Texas, on November 27, 1918. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School in Austin. She had the gift of hospitality. Jo loved people and never met a stranger. Her children's friends always knew "the door was open to the house and the refrigerator." Granny, as she was called, was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved to watch golf on T.V., was arm chair quarterback, and enjoyed playing Bridge and 42 with her friends. Jo was a beautiful and talented woman, wife of EB Newburn, who died 23 years ago, and mother of John, Nancy Jo, and Tommy. She was devoted to her family and their activities. She had just had her 90th birthday and truly accepted the love and gifts sent her way. She said she had lived a good life. She died peacefully on her own terms. She was happy and proud of her children; grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed. As she wished, her body will be cremated. A private family gathering and memorial service will be held July 25th at the Newburn home on Lake Travis. Memorial donations may be sent to Sisters of the Holy Cross, Development Office, Saint Mary's, 407 Bertrand Hall, Notre Dame, IN 46556-5000 Thank you for your prayers to lift her off in a beautiful way, and to support us in our grieving.
